Housing Styles
Traditional Japanese House
There are 2 main housing styles that were commonly used by the Ancient Japanese. They are called pit-dwelling house, and the elevated house. Usually houses are made from wood and stone.
There are many intricate designs such as many strips of wood that are used to make just the floor or the walls. Most of the modern structures are made of glass and stone. In ancient times the houses were all made by hand. Furniture can be stored in large closets such as (couches and tables)
The frame of a Japanese house is made of wood, and the weight is supported by vertical columns, horizontal beams, and diagonal braces.
Diagonal braces were used when the technology of other countries was brought to Japan. Now sometimes in the modern world they use strong paper for decorations on the outside of the house. They thought that people would appeal to that kind of fashion. I will explain the pit-dwelling house and the elevated house below.
